[Q] Can T-Mobile detect 3rd party wifi tether apps?

So my sister lives out in Idaho and has no real internet solutions where she is at. Her only options are mobile data from cell phone providers.

So I looked around at different mobile hotspot solutions from Verizon, T-Mobile, and others. They're absurdly expensive. 50GB of monthly data from Verizon is over $300 a month!

I'm currently on Verizon with unlimited 4G. When I go on vacation I take my laptop and my 4G phone and use a 3rd party wifi tether app to give data to my laptop. Last vacation I used roughly 30GB of data from streaming Netflix and my data wasn't slowed down or anything. I'm assuming it's because Verizon can't tell the difference between data usage on the phone and using a wifi tethering app.

Can she get away with a set up like that with T-Mobile? Keep in mind when they had dedicated internet they were using around 130GB of data on Netflix alone every month. Even with unlimited data I feel like T-mobile would shut that down pretty quick.

Thoughts?
