[Q] CWM Recovery boot loop (another one)

While attempting to update the mod on my Galaxy Ace (GT-5830) using CWM Recovery (v5.0.2.6) I find that CWMR is 'stuck' and when I try to reboot, it boots to CWM.

Rebooting is by holding the Power button down as its 'Power down' option doesn't work. None of the CWM options display anything, just the CWM logo for a long as I leave it. Mindful of the ROM Manager scare re the Ace I have never run it, just Recovery.

I tried a (Phandroid forum) solution, a zipped script whose .sh file said:

Code:
#!/sbin/sh busybox echo -ne "\066" | busybox dd bs=1 seek=4107 count=1 conv=notrunc of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8

... and it was not read although it was the only .zip on the sdcard

I tried removing/replacing the battery and the sdcard to no avail.

Kies can't connect with the (on) phone although the PC can see it and acknowledges that the phone is connected. Kies troubleshooting found nothing.

How might I get it running again?
