I've had one of these 'fake' tablets a couple of months and to date I've had to do two factory resets because of stability issues, i.e., lots of apps not loading, can't load loader3, etc..
Hardware : MT6582
Model : T906
Android Version: 7.0
Baseband Version: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V34,2018/01/02 14:24
Kernel Version: 3.4.67
Build Number: T906_vEN0BB81_20181121
Custom Build Version: ZH960_31pin_QC
So my idea was to see if I can install a custom recovery and see if I can then change the Android version or reinstall it, anything to make the thing a bit more stable.
Is this the way to go with these devices?
I'm a newbie to this stuff, but what I've discovered so far is that:-
1) I'm sure I can root the device using the RootGenuis app or SuperSU.zip via recovery
2) I can't unlock the bootloader: when I do fastboot oem device-info or fastboot oem unlock I just get a flashing cursor, nothing displayed on the tablet screen so no action I can perform.
It seems that I'm in a catch 33 situation. I want to back up the device in case it gets bricked but I can't back it up until I install a custom recovery such as TWRP. And I can't do that until I unlock the bootloader. And I can't find a suitable custom recovery in the first place. There's a bit of software called Easy Magic TWRP Installer, which, if I understand correctly, can build a custom recovery based on the device's hardware and software.
But when I read "you need to copy the stock recovery of your phone you downloaded to the stock folder of the Installer. You can see the directory on the software.". A lot of this stuff is so poorly written. So I need a stock recovery first. How to get one? This becomes a catch 44 problem !! So I need a stock ROM. I need to download this from somewhere. I need to unlock the bootloader if I need to flash it. Catch 44 becomes catch 99 !!!! Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!
Any pointers to a way forward appreciated before I get a life and give up the idea.
